How to make Meatballs
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit/175 degrees Celsius.
Step 2: Place bread crumbs in a small mixing basin and add cream. Allow to remain for about 10 minutes, until the crumbs have absorbed the cream.
Step 3: Meanwhile, in a pan over medium heat, melt 1 teaspoon butter. Cook and toss onion until light brown, about 10 minutes. Transfer the onions to a mixing dish.
Step 4: Combine ground beef, ground pork, egg, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger with the onion in a mixing bowl. Lightly combine the bread crumbs and cream.
Step 5: Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Pinch off roughly 1 1/2 tablespoons of meat mixture per meatball and roll into balls. Place the meatballs in the skillet and heat, rotating frequently, until browned, about 5 minutes. The insides of meatballs will still be pink.
Step 6: Place the browned meatballs in a baking dish, pour in the chicken broth, and cover with foil.
Step 7: Bake the meatballs in a preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until soft. Remove the meatballs to a serving platter.
Step 8: Pour the pan drippings into a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk flour into the drippings until smooth.
Step 9: Gradually whisk in enough beef broth to make 2 1/2 cups liquid.
Step 10: Bring gravy to a simmer and whisk continually until thickened, about 5 minutes.
Step 11: Just before serving, stir in the sour cream. Season with salt and black pepper. Serve the meatballs with gravy.
